Dr. Jens Hamprecht

Jens Hamprecht was a senior researcher at the Chair of Sustainability and Technology at ETH Zurich between 2006 and 2017. His award-winning research examines how businesses change the "rule of the game" in their industries and promote more ecologically or socially responsible practices.

He is especially interested in the development of a circular economy and he leads the Global Market Development of Biodegradable Plastics at BASF, the Chemical Company. As a former Vice President of the European Bioplastics Association he has set up several associations worldwide promoting zero waste and biodegradable plastics.

Research of Dr. Hamprecht has been published in the Journal of Management Studies, Business & Society, the Journal of Supply Chain Management, Management International Review as well as in newspapers like The Economist or Handelsblatt. His case study on the palm oil value chain (co-authored with Prof. Daniel Corsten) is regularly used in the Executive MBA Program at London Business School, IESE, and Bocconi University.

A native of Germany, Dr. Hamprecht studied industrial engineering at ETH Zurich as well as electrical engineering with management studies at the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London. He holds a degree in industrial engineering from ETH and completed his doctoral research at University of St. Gallen in collaboration with Nestlé Corporate Technologies, Vevey.

Dr. Hamprecht acts as an ad-hoc reviewer for several journals including Organization, Long Range Planning, Climate Policy, Organization & Environment, Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Management and die Betriebswirtschaft.
