by Leonie Schoeller

Increased energy efficiency and renewable energies in the Swiss building stock play a major role in the Swiss energy strategy 2050. Decentralized renewable energy systems allow to achieve this especially if designed, and operated on a district scale. In this forum national council and entrepreneur Jürg Grossen talked about political and regulatory framework conditions of these systems, former M-TEC researcher Dr. Liliane Ableitner then presented the experiences with a pilot project in Walenstadt, where blockchain technologies allowed for the exchange of energy on a district level. In his closing presentation Dr. Christof Knoeri discussed the state-of-the-art and future challenges of decentralised renewable energy systems.
