Digital technologies offer multiple solutions that can contribute to a more sustainable building stock. By looking at the whole lifecycle of buildings, not only can are costs reduced, but also materials and emissions, increasing efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Nevertheless, the penetration rate of digital technologies remains relatively low in the building sector. Most incumbents lack the knowledge of business models that allow them to successfully integrate digital products and services into their value creation and value proposition. At the same time, new entrants who differentiate themselves from established companies in different aspects need to adapt their existing business models to the particularities of the building sector.

This project "Business Models for Digital Innovations in the Building Sector” addresses the question of how successful business models for digital technologies should be in the building sector. We plan to conduct a case study-based analysis to explain why certain business models for digital technologies result in successful commercialization. Based on the results, this study will provide suggestions for the economy and policy makers while informing the broader public about digitization in the building sector.
