RDES Guidelines for successful Renewable Decentralized Energy Systems (RDES)

SusTec and HSLU researchers continue working on a collection of Guidelines for Renewable Decentralized Energy Systems (RDES).

Renewable decentralized energy systems (RDES)—energy systems that integrate renewable energy source, energy efficient building technologies, and energy storage solutions—have emerged as one of the most promising approaches to reduce the CO2 footprint of the built environment. Thus, far industry and research has focused primarily on developing solutions to the technological challenges associated with RDES. Yet, recent evidence suggests that—in additional to the technological aspects—the successful implementation and widespread diffusion of RDES requires a better understanding of the political and strategic aspects of RDES.

The objective of the inter-workpackage collaboration “RDES Guidelines” between SusTec and HSLU researchers is to develop a comprehensive compendium of guidelines and recommendations for the successful design, construction, and operation of RDES. The compendium is based on collected findings from WP 2, WP 4 and the recently accepted WP 5 of the SCCER Future Energy Efficient Buildings & Districts and will cover technology-, policy-, and company-related factors facilitating the success of RDES.
