Arnau Aliana joined Prof. Volker Hoffmann's Group for Sustainability and Technology (SusTec) in January 2021 as a PhD candidate. His research focuses on building a bridge between policy-makers and energy planners, developing a methodology to include endogenous policy decision variables into a techno-economic energy system optimization model.
He previously studied the MSc in Urban, Energy and Environmental Planning with specialization in Sustainable Energy Planning and Management at DownloadAalborg University in Denmarkvertical_align_bottom. In this MSc, he learnt about energy systems through a holistic approach using the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) method. In his Master thesis, he studied how can energy poverty be alleviated through decentralized market design.
Previously, he studied a BSc in Energy Engineering at DownloadUniversitat Politecnica de Catalunyavertical_align_bottom, in his hometown Barcelona. In there he gained the necessary knowledge to solve energy-related issues through an engineering approach. His thesis analyzed the existing self-consumption schemes in Denmark, which was later published as a peer-reviewed article.
In his free time, Arnau likes to watch movies and TV-shows, play videogames and discover the beauty of the Alps.
