Erik Gloerfeld conducted his master's thesis at Prof. Volker Hoffmann’s chair at ETH Zurich 2012-2013, after a student assistant job and a semester project in 2011. In his master thesis, he investigated costs and emissions of a PV-equipped smart building in different world regions with a Matlab model.

Erik became a master student in Energy Science and Technology at ETH in September 2010. He holds a B.S. from the RWTH Aachen University in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration (Honors).

Before he rejoined the SusTec, Erik had worked as an intern for the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) GmbH in Beijing and McKinsey & Company in Tokyo as part of his master degree. During his studies at RWTH, he supported the Chair for Engineering Design and the Institute for Energy Efficient Buildings and Indoor Climate as a student assistant. He holds scholarships from the German Academic Foundation and the Dr Jurgen and Irmgard Ulderup Foundation.

In his free time, Erik is active in several sports and likes the occasional glass of wine.
